  • I needed a trim last week and decided to use the gift certificate someone gave my parents to some hair place I've never been to before.  I just wanted a trim so I wasn't picky about where I wanted to go.  The minute i walked through the door, I wish i hadn't!  The place was being renovated and everything was disorganized.  The lady had me sit down and I told her to keep the length and that I just wanted a trim.  A few seconds after I had sat down, a longtime customer walked in and the lady who was cutting my hair almost stopped cutting my hair to oblige him, but he said he didn't mind waiting and wasn't in a hurry.  He might not have been in a hurry, but the hairdresser was.  Snip Snip...off came four inches!!!!  What happened to, "Keep the length"?!  She didn't say one word to me the entire time she cut my hair.   A couple minutes after the first customer came in...another one came in.  A guy I recognized from my microbiology class at JC. If you go to JC, he's the tall, pale, redhead with a ponytail who always wears a long, black trench coat.  He wanted to donate his hair to locks of love, so another hairdresser sat him down in the chair next to me.  Then, to my astonishment, the lady doing my hair took the scissors she was using in my hair and cut his pontail off then continued using the same scissors in my hair!!!!  I should have said something...but didn't know what to say! My hair was "finished" in less than 10 minutes and the lady ushered me out the door with my hair dripping wet and didn't even offer to style or dry it.  I wanted nothing less but to get out of there as soon as possible.  She said the 10 minutes of hair whacking was worth 20 dollars!  I wouldn't have paid $1 for it and she knew it.  Let's just say that she wasn't too happy when I produced the gift certificate!  So, in the end, I have a short short, lopsided, 11-year-olds hair cut, with some crazy bangs!  That's what I call a good days work!

Now the fun part...figure out what to do with it.  I can't wear hats forever!  Maybe I can curl my hair...although I've never been very talented with a curling iron.

  • Last night at AWANA just as I was leaving, someone tugged on my shirt.  When I turned around it was the "new" 4th grader in my class. Last night was her first time to AWANA.  She was holding back tears and when I asked her what the matter was she struggled to say that she was scared she wasn't going to heaven. Steve's talk about how a person is not a Christian just because their parents are Christians really hit home with her.  I asked her all the necessary questions and if she said she wanted to pray with me...so we went to a little corner of the church and she accepted Jesus into her heart!!!!! :) I could see the weight being lifted off her shoulders...she couldn't stop smiling and in turn I couldn't stop smiling.  Just as we finished her mom came and they were gone before I had time to think.  I had time to ask her to come back next week and she said she really wanted to.  I really hope she does come back...I went and bought a bible for her and I just really think she needs some Christian influence in her life.  I know her family doesn't go to church very often.  Please pray for her with me.

  • I had a Physiology and a Spanish exam today...fun times!  After my Physiology exam I had a couple hours before my Spanish exam and so I hung out with my buddies from Physiology.  We ate vegetarian burridos at the taco truck (they are super good) and just chilled.  A couple girls and I got to talking about religion and church because I mentioned that I sometimes play piano for the offertory.  One of them married a mormon and so was converted soon after she got married although they never go to church and believe that every path is the right way to heaven.  The other girl also married a mormon, but was raised a catholic but now would consider herself Hindu.  She also believes that any way to heaven is the right way.

To say the least...these two women are extremely confused and mixed up. Honestly they don't know what they believe. I really didn't know what to say...I was very interested in what their thoughts on Salvation and why they  believe what they believe and asked them a lot of questions.  I didn't' want to come across as "holier than thou" so while I did say exactly what I believed and pointed out some of our differences, I didn't' tell them that they were dead wrong or going to hell or anything like that. It's very difficult to talk to people about things like this...especially people you are friends with and are going to have a relationship with for a while.  I think our talk today broke some barriers though...I'm hoping for more good talks and maybe next time they will ask me some questions I just hope I have some good answers.  Oh, and I guess I could pray!  Praying is usually the last thing that pops into my mind when it comes to a difficult situation...unfortunately.

Well, I'm off to study for another physiology exam!  Auf Wiedersehen!

  • This might be the single best comparison I've seen on McCain and Obama. It's worth looking at this information and passing on so others can see the differences.

Read this completely, because the tax differences between the two are significant.

    CAPITAL GAINS TAX

    MCCAIN
0% on home sales up to $500,000 per home (couples). McCain does not propose any change in existing home sales income tax.

    OBAMA
28% on profit from ALL home sales. (How does this affect you? If you sell your home and make a profit, you will pay 28% of your gain on taxes. If you are heading toward retirement and would like to down-size your home or move into a retirement community, 28% of the money you make from your home will go to taxes. This proposal will adversely affect the elderly who are counting on the income from their homes as part of their retirement income.
    )

    DIVIDEND TAX

    MCCAIN
    15% (no change)

    OBAMA
39.6% - (How will this affect you? If you have any money invested in stock market, IRA, mutual funds, college funds, life insurance, retirement accounts, or anything that pays or reinvests dividends, you will now be paying nearly 40% of the money earned on taxes if Obama becomes president. The experts predict that 'Higher tax rates on dividends and capital gains would crash the stock market, yet do absolutely nothing to cut the deficit.
    ')

    INCOME TAX

    MCCAIN

    (no changes)
    Single making 30K - tax $4,500
    Single making 50K - tax $12,500

    Single making 50K - tax $14,000
    Single making 75K - tax $23,250
    Married making 60K - tax $16,800
    Married making 75K - tax $21,000
    Married making 125K - tax $38,750
Under Obama, your taxes could almost double!

    INHERITANCE TAX

    MCCAIN
    - 0% (No change, Bush repealed this tax)

    OBAMA
    Restore the inheritance tax

Many families have lost businesses, farms, ranches, and homes that have been in their families for generations because they could not afford the inheritance tax. Those willing their assets to loved ones will only lose them to these taxes.

    NEW TAXES PROPOSED BY OBAMA

New government taxes proposed on homes that are more than 2400 square feet. New gasoline taxes (as if gas weren't high enough already) New taxes on natural resources consumption (heating gas, water, electricity) New taxes on retirement accounts, and last but not least....New taxes to pay for socialized medicine so we can receive the same level of medical care as other third-world countries!!!

  • I feel so boring.  Whenever I blog it's always about school...or work.  But I guess I have to settle with being boring while I'm a student.

School has started again.  I'm still at MJC and will be applying for the nursing program in the spring!!!  For a few days I was considering taking 20 units but after the first two days of classes...I've decided that it would be wise to cut my load down to 14 units.  I am currently registered for Physiology and Spanish and 2nd on the waitlist for Microbiology.  I should be able to get in. I'm not working this semester except for an occasional day at Rachel's Kitchen (if you've never heard of it...it's a catering business and I'm not the owner)!!! So there should be plenty of time to do my homework.  I am going to get A's in all three classes...I won't even let myself consider the other options.

I can't wait to get in the nursing program.  Once you're in it...there's little competition and while I will still try to get good grades...a B or even a C won't be the end of the world.  Right now is just a little stressful trying to get A's in all my classes and feeling like a failure if I get a B.

    Well that's enough I think. If you're reading this...sorry!  =)
